After sending internet airwaves into a frenzy with his “future bounce” ensemble, The God Complex, GoldLink
lays his stratospheric wordstock on his new single “Sober Thoughts,
produced by Montreal rising producer, Kaytranada. The Virginia-bred
rapper is a trailblazer for unsaturated artistry. His expeditious
articulations, soulful hooks, and futuristic funk synthesis creates a
raw musical goldmine destined for heavy rotation.
“Sober Thoughts,” journeys listeners through a toxic love tale
between two lovers and their lovestruck addictions. His somersaulting
lyricism and unconventional soundboard intermingles hip-hop aesthetics
mesh well with electronic soul vibes.
GoldLink speaks on the song’s message:
“Sober Thoughts” is a song about an unhealthy relationship I was in with a girl, where we would continue to mistreat each other, to spite each other. We were bad for each other, yet always came back together, because we thought we “loved each other.” It was a young love, not a forever love. I was addicted to her and she was addicted to me,like a drug. We knew we should stop, but we kept going. In the end, I ask God for his help by saying, “you may not come when I want you, but you right on time.”
