Schoolboy Q 'Oxymoron Tour': A Night of Paradox

Dallas, Texas- After the release of his highly anticipated album 'Oxymoron," TDE signee Schoolboy Q graced the stage alongside opening acts Vince Staples & Isaiah Rashad. Within the smokey Kush haze that elevated the SouthSide Music ballroom were the: floral bucket hats, TDE crew-necks, and contradicting blends of  conscious rap lyricism and gangsta- trap house that  lived up to Q's tour name; Oxymoron. "MARTIN HAD A DREAM! KENDRICK HAVE A DREAM" the crowd chants Kendrick Lamar's opening of Backseat Freestyle during the DJ Interludes before Q hits the stage. A large part of me wondered if the white skin tones  that compacted the majority of the audience knew which Martin he was talking about.......... Martin Luther or Martin Lawrence.

In the mist of incandescent strobe lights, flipping birds and Q's proclamation to "never bring your boyfriend to a fucking SchoolBoy Q show," Q hits the stage in his camouflage jacket, white tee, and signature bucket hat. The pulse on the baselines of "Oxymoron," left the crowd in a high-energy state of ecstasy blurring the lines between subtle mellowness &  hyperactive gangster groovy trap house. Q also channeled his spiritual persona with  , 'Blessed,' ft Kendrick Lamar from his second independent studio album Habits & Contradictions. Q Classics such as 'Druggys Wit Hoes,' & "My Hatin Joint,' left crowds shouting "QUINCY! QUINCY! QUINCY!..." as Q prepared to  wrap up his Oxymoron set. Before he ends his Dallas tour stop,  he leaves us with one last song: under one condition.. "I want yall  to get so turnt up on this fuckin song, that we all pass out," Q says before the spacetrap frequencies & bass drops from Q's "Man of the Year Single,"

"Bruh I see girls everywhere
Tity, Ass, Hands in the Air, is a party over here...
Shake it for the Man of the year
Uh,man of the year, man of the...bounce"

As Q prepared to exit, the crowd began to chant "ONE MORE SONG! ONE MORE SONG!ONE MORE SONG!"...& Schoolboy delivered. Q managed to expose his multifaceted rap styles with precise contradictions, & apparent contrasts. Lackadaisical yet energetic....Q's show was quite the paradox.
