Larry King dubs Tyler, the Creator a
renaissance man. Despite the generational age-gap between the pair, the
Odd Future artisan sat down with King for an interview segment during
his new web series, Larry King Now. The interview is infused with
Tyler’s candid perspective, reflective childhood moments and avant-garde
aspirations. The genesis of sit down reveals Tyler’s disapproval with
being coined “a rapper,” due to the ideology that rappers are given
perceived limitations. He revealed his hatred for the skill and his
intent to maneuver into the film industry alongside industry leaders.
“It puts you in a box. I’m talented enough to do other things, I don’t know, I’m pretty bored with it. It’s not interesting. In the future, I want to do films, I want people to mention my name next to Wes Anderson or Quentin Tarantino. I don’t want my name to be mentioned next to other rappers at all.”
Tyler, the Creator has expanded his creative idiosyncrasies beyond the world of music. He is a designer for Odd Future‘s Golfwang clothing wear and stars in Adult Swim’s ludicrous comedy series, “Loiter Squad.”
King also addressed Tyler’s vernacular, view on homosexuality, and
his ability to recreate offensive words by removing their abusive power.
Sedated moments of Tyler’s feelings towards his father were irradiated
with humorous love proclamations for actress Jennifer Lawrence, his
advocacy towards individuality and his spirit animals.
The 27-minute interview exhibits the ingenious mind of a millennial
who refuses to assimilate into societal expectations and isn’t afraid to
partake in uncensored pandemonium along the way. Stream the
full-interview above.
